New Year, new you, right? With all the New Year’s Resolutions that you’ve probably been making the last few weeks, have you forgotten to think about your spine health? If you suffer from neck or back pain, it may very well be worth considering making some resolutions for your spine, too! Here at Advanced Integrated Rehabilitation Medicine and Pain Center, your premier location for integrative medicine and medical acupuncture in Washington DC, we’ve got some spine health resolutions that you can put into practice in 2015 to put you on the road to better overall health.

  1. Focus on working on your posture this year. We cannot stress enough how important your posture is to overall spine health. Not only does poor posture look bad, but it also causes your spine to become misaligned, which strains the discs in our spine and the muscles and ligaments in our back. This can lead to all types of problems, from degenerative disc disease to chronic neck, back, and shoulder pain.
  2. Attempt to maintain a healthy weight. If you’re overweight, that extra weight puts stress on your spine.
  3. Exercise regularly. Not only does exercising help you lose or maintain weight, the right exercises are actually really good for your back. Work on exercises that strengthen the muscles around your spine to reduce future back pain.
  4. Eat better! A healthy, balanced diet gives us the vitamins and nutrients we need to build strong muscle, bone, discs in the spine, and to promote health throughout the body overall.
