However, the reality is that this practice has been around for thousands of years and has helped people around the world. Today we want to debunk those crazy myths surrounding medical acupuncture for Washington DC residents once and for all.
- It hurts! While we do use needles, you don’t need to worry because they are very thin and fine. While you might feel an initial prick and oftentimes our patients have described it as feeling like a minor bug bite. If you feel any discomfort, it will either fade on its own or ease up as we adjust the needles.
- It’s ancient folk medicine and no real professional would actually recommend it. In reality, it is an option that many healthcare professionals recommend to their patients! Did you know that even our own military uses acupuncture?
- You’re into New Age healing if you use or practice acupuncture. Actually, it’s likely that you have a family member, friend, or coworker who has undergone acupuncture treatments.
- Acupuncture can only help with treating pain. While it is accurate that acupuncture can help with pain in the joints, including knee pain, back pain, headache, menstrual pain, and stomach cramps, it should also be known that acupuncture is great for treating nausea and/or vomiting, morning sickness, depression, chemotherapy side effects, allergies, hypertension, infertility and other ailments.
